what’s in my tech bag

Technology has advanced within the last decade. Many have caught up to the new-age ways of doing things and others choose to remain traditional. As for me, I AM A TECH NERD! I’ve kept up with the tech world myself. Remote jobs have been on the rise, and I personally have taken full advantage of that. Having to travel for work along with running my own business, I have had to dive deep into the world of technology and get a better understanding of how things work to make life a little easier.

Here are a few things that I’ve incorporated into my day-to-day life:

CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS: NFC

NFC (near field communication) is a short-range wireless technology that allows your phone to act as a transit pass or credit card, quickly transfer data, or instantly pair with Bluetooth devices like headphones and speakers.

NFC is an evolved version of RFID (radio frequency identification), which has been around for years. It is very similar to key cards we use to access hotels or office buildings.

Simply put, it’s a handshake between your device and the machine.

Since the pandemic, a lot of businesses have shifted to contactless payments and NFC machines which many people rely on every day. With just a tap of a phone or watch, your transaction is quick and you’re off to your next destination without the hassle of typing in security pins and zip codes or pressing buttons that are filled with germs. (Most places don’t bother to sanitize their machines). Some examples are Samsung Pay, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Take a moment to look at your phone/Galaxy or iPhone watch and see how it works! Not only is this a genius idea, but it also prevents having to take out that bulky wallet and spread all of your business to the person behind you in line staring at every card and possibly your ID and address. As a woman some of us have encountered “stalkers”, so this is definitely a more suitable and safe option.

Laptop Addict

One thing about me, I ALWAYS have my laptop nearby. During my travels, I’ve been complimented on my accessories and how stylish they are. Being a writer and businesswoman who frequently travels, making sure I have the right tools I need to keep up with the business and my personal life is essential. I personally like Samsung products when it comes it comes to choosing my electronic devices. I am able to connect all my devices together and easily transfer files back and forth between my phone, tablet, and laptop.

Here’s a curated list of essentials that every tech-savvy woman should carry in her bag to conquer the dynamic realm of technology.

1. Laptop: Your Digital Canvas

The heart of every tech enthusiast’s arsenal is a reliable laptop. Choose a lightweight, powerful device that matches your workflow. Whether you’re coding, designing, or analyzing data, having a trusty laptop ensures you can tackle any challenge that comes your way.

2. Charging Essentials: Power Up Your Day

Running out of battery during a crucial meeting or while debugging code is a tech nightmare. Always carry a portable charger and make sure to have charging cables compatible with your devices. This ensures that you’re never left powerless in the midst of your tech endeavors.

Samsung earbuds

3. Wireless Headphones: Tune into Productivity

Create your own focused space in a bustling tech environment with a pair of noise-canceling wireless headphones. These not only help you concentrate but also send a clear signal to colleagues that you’re in the zone. These come in handy when I’m out and about and need to make a phone or log on to a zoom meeting with privacy and still be hands-free. I personally use Samsung earbuds; they are very discreet and fit perfectly in my ear. (Don’t forget your earbuds cleaning kit!)

4. Notebook and Pen: Old School Meets New Age

Despite the digital age, there’s something irreplaceable about jotting down ideas on paper. A sleek notebook and a quality pen are essential for brainstorming, sketching, or simply doodling your way through complex problem-solving sessions. My one and only planner I use is the A5 6-Ringbound Contour planner from Cloth & Paper.

I have a variety of notebooks, to jot down ideas, thoughts, inspirations or important business meeting notes as well. I protect them well using either my Coach notebook cover or my Michael Kors notebook cover.

5. Multi-port Adapter: Connectivity at Your Fingertips

Tech meetings can take unexpected turns, and you might find yourself needing to connect to various devices. A multi-port adapter ensures that you can seamlessly link your laptop to projectors, external displays, or other peripherals without missing a beat.

G- drive

6. Flash Drive: A Mini Data Vault

Having a physical backup in the form of a USB flash drive can be a lifesaver, no, seriously. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve locked my self out of something and could not retrieve it or I needed to transfer files and there was no internet.

It’s a quick and easy way to share files or transfer data when the need arises, and it’s handy for those moments when an internet connection is elusive.

My business card

7. Business Cards: Networking in Style

Tech conferences, meetups, and networking events are commonplace in the industry. A set of professionally designed business cards can make a lasting impression and facilitate the exchange of contact information with potential collaborators, mentors, or employers.

8. Glasses Blue Light Blocking: Protect Your Vision

With hours spent in front of screens, protecting your eyes is paramount. Blue light blocking glasses reduce eye strain and improve sleep quality. A stylish pair not only safeguards your vision but also adds a touch of flair to your tech ensemble.

9. Reusable Water Bottle: Stay Hydrated, Stay Sharp

Tech can be demanding, and it’s crucial to stay hydrated throughout the day. A reusable water bottle ensures you have a sustainable way to keep your energy levels up, allowing you to tackle challenges with a clear and focused mind. The one I use the most is the A5 water bottle. Its sleek appearance helps it fit in my tech bag without taking up space.

Coach pencil case

10. Pencil Case

A pencil case equipped with sketch pens, highlighters, and a trusty notebook can be a catalyst for creativity. Sometimes, the best ideas strike when you put pen to paper, and having these tools readily available can be a game-changer. A well-chosen pencil case can be a conversation starter. Imagine the intrigue when you pull out a stylish case during a meeting or workshop — it’s a small detail that can leave a lasting impression.

11. Personal Touch: Express Yourself

With the exception of my laptop, I love the color black and also black croc in anything. Its my signature style and blends with my look. So whether it’s a funky keychain, a personalized laptop sleeve, or a stylish tech accessory, adding a personal touch to your tech bag helps you stand out in a sea of devices. Let your personality shine through and make your tech ensemble uniquely yours.

Being prepared and adaptable is key. With these essentials in your tech bag, you’re not just ready to code, design, or troubleshoot — you’re ready to thrive. So, sling that bag over your shoulder, and let the world witness the power of a woman in tech with the right tools at her disposal.
