Navigating crowded airports is often a necessary part of travel, even for those of us who prioritize luxury and privacy.
I remember a trip where I had a layover at a major international airport. I looked for the nearest restroom so I could freshen up. The scene was exactly as I expected: a swarm of travelers, long lines, and a symphony of rushing water.
Trying my best to get through the crowded space, I finally found an open sink. With very little counter space and interruptions, freshening up was a challenge. The lighting, loud announcements, and suffocating atmosphere only added to the stress I had. Ugh! I was over it.
I was determined to elevate my experience, so I decided to access the airport lounge on my next trip. The difference was immediate. As I entered the lounge, I was greeted by a peace, pure calmness and i loved it!
. The soft lighting, plush seating, and soothing background music created a space even in the midst of chaos.
In the lounge's private restroom, I found space, luxurious amenities, and an atmosphere that matched exactly what I needed. The well-appointed facilities offered high-end toiletries, fresh towels, and even vanity areas for a more comfortable and luxurious freshen-up session. Taking the time to refresh in this change of atmosphere allowed me to reset and recharge, turning what was once a stressful necessity into a moment of self-care that I needed.
This experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of investing in our comfort and well-being, especially during travel. Elevating my experience from crowded airport bathrooms to airport lounges has become a non-negotiable part of my travel routine. As a private luxury life coach, I encourage my clients to seek out these moments of elevation and prioritize their comfort and peace, transforming travel into a truly luxurious experience.
Pre-Travel Preparation
1. Skincare Essentials: Before heading to the airport, I make my skincare routine is taken care of. I apply a hydrating serum and a rich moisturizer to combat the dehydrating effects of cabin air. My vanity case always includes a travel-sized face mist, a nourishing lip balm, and under-eye patches to keep my skin looking fresh.
2. Wardrobe Choices: Comfort and style are paramount and I LOVE style! I choose outfits that are both classy, elegant, and practical, such as a light trench coat (because for me airports and planes are always cold), a comfortable shirt, a light silk scarf, and comfortable yet stylish pants. A pair of elegant flats or boots (depending on how I’m feeling and the weather) are perfect for navigating the airport with ease.

3. Lounge Access: As I’ve said before, airport lounges are a non-negotiable part of my travel routine. These sanctuaries offer a quiet space to relax, access to healthy snacks, and amenities such as showers and private restrooms, which are ideal for freshening up during long layovers.
4. Hydration: I make it a point to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate the body. I carry a reusable water bottle with a built-in filter, ensuring I have access to clean water at all times.
5. Relaxation Techniques: To manage stress and maintain mental clarity, I practice deep breathing exercises and short meditation sessions while waiting for my flight. Noise-canceling headphones and a carefully curated playlist help create a peaceful environment, regardless of the bustling surroundings.
In-Flight Rituals
6. In-Flight Skincare: As soon as I settle into my seat, I apply a hydrating facial mist and use a high-quality sheet mask if the flight duration allows. These small acts of self-care help keep my skin hydrated and glowing upon arrival. When it comes to makeup, I keep my face free of makeup but moisturized until I get off the plane.
7. Comfort Essentials: I always travel with a cashmere blanket scarf, which doubles as a cozy wrap during the flight. Compression socks are also a must to improve circulation and prevent swelling during long-haul flights.
8. Mindful Eating: I pack healthy snacks such as nuts, dried fruit, and protein bars to avoid the often unhealthy options available on flights. This ensures I maintain my energy levels and feel nourished throughout the journey. I also take advantage of the lounges as well.
Layovers and Connecting Flights
9. Freshening Up: During layovers, I take advantage of airport lounges to freshen up. A quick shower, a change of clothes, and reapplying my skincare products make a world of difference. I also carry a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste in my vanity case to keep my breath fresh.
10. Light Exercise: Stretching and light exercises are integral to keeping my body feeling good. Many airports now have yoga rooms or designated stretching areas, which I make use of to keep my muscles relaxed and to boost my energy levels.
11. Mental Rejuvenation: I use layovers as an opportunity to catch up on reading or journaling. Writing down my thoughts and reflections helps me stay mentally sharp and maintain a sense of purpose and clarity.
At the Destination
12. Evening Routine: When arriving at my destination, I unwind with a calming evening routine. This includes a warm bath with essential oils, followed by a full skincare regimen to rejuvenate my skin. I also make time for a brief meditation session to help adjust to the new time zone and get some good sleep. I set alarms that are needed or ask the front desk for a wake-up call.
13. Maintaining Routine: While traveling, I maintain my usual self-care habits as much as possible. This includes regular exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness practices. Keeping up with these routines helps me stay balanced and energized, regardless of where I am.
